Diamond belts have a much longer life than standard silicon carbide belts. These belts are intended for the user who uses the same grit for many pieces. They have approximately 25x to 50x the life of a silicon carbide belt, depending on the user and product being ground. The diamond doesn't break down like the silicon carbide;  therefore the belts maintain their cutting ability for longer.
